In what ways do you communicate online?

I think there is a disconnect between how I want to communicate online and how I actually communicate online. I mostly want to talk about hobbyist projects and such but in practice I find few other people who also do.

I also like to think about the future, how things could be better, etc. sometimes this leads me into politics “debates” which often seem to be me trying to explain my perspective and somebody else trying to be condescending.

I think my favourite conversations have been with groups of friends on now dead platforms like Skype or MSN. I don’t know if it’s just age or the nature of more modern platforms but things just don’t seem to work that way any more.
