I would attempt something that I think would be massively ambitious: a technology co-op focused on product development. Perhaps something in simulation. We could potentially design simulations for various scenarios: e.g. technology architecture simulations; benchmark before you have a real implementation. Green tech simulations; can we generate novel green energy concepts/improvements using simulations? Economic simulations – can we use first principles approaches to come up with testable economic theories? Maybe something like CarbonChain but with more open data that is available to journalists.
I would hope this would improve the world in multiple ways: proving again the viability of co-operative enterprise and showing that private dictatorships are not necessary. The outputs of this would help to promote human understanding and tackle great social challenges.
The main real challenge to starting this is finance. If anyone just wants to shove me a couple of million to get started on this, well…
